March Trip to the Cannery

We are planning a trip to the Indy Cannery for March 27, 2010 (Saturday). If you are interested in attending, please contact me as soon as possible!

We are not able to bring our own food. (That's why I do the bulk canning at my house, which will happen on May 22.)

I'll need a list of what people want to order by Wednesday, the 24st. The order form is found here.

People can order any number of items canned or pouched (the first 2 columns). Or- you can order bulk bags (the third column). Or- you can order the prepackaged items (on the bottom left.)

You don't need to order individual cans, pouches, or oxygen absorbers. If you order 6 cans, you get 2 free lids and a box. If you order 5 pouches, you get a free box.

If you have questions, please ask!

Here is a great video that gives you an idea of what to expect at the Cannery.

May - Today while the sun shines... ...we'll get our 2 week water supply

Here is May's theme. Let's get our water supply!

1. Use commercially available water, rotating by date on
bottle.

2. Collect PETE bottles from juice, soda, or other available
sources. Do NOT use milk jugs.

3. Water can be stored for 6 months without pre-treating.

4. Water can be treated for longer storage: Non-chlorinated water
should be treated with bleach. Add 1/8 of a teaspoon (8 drops) of liquid
household chlorine bleach (5 to 6% sodium hypochlorite) for every
gallon (4 liters) of water. Only household bleach without thickeners,
scents, or additives should be used.

5. Aim to store at least 14 gallons of water per person.

6. Build rain barrels and collect non-potable water for other
uses.
